Physiological and molecular characterization of cold tolerance in roses


Roses are one of the economically most important groups of ornamental plants. However, in northern regions as North China, cold stress is one of the most important environmental factors that seriously affect growth and development of garden roses.

My study focuses on a better understanding of cold acclimation and cold tolerance in roses. I want to clarify the role of both the cryoprotective carbohydrates and the dehydrins in cold tolerance.

Therefore a combined approach of transcription patterns of relevant genes in both pathways in rose stem tissue under low temperature, as well as metabolite quantification will be used.
