Talk and Q&A about light pollution with astronomors, followed by stargazing in the public observatory of Ghent.

The dark sky was inspiring people for generations. Throughout history, it was a valuable source of information for science, culture, and human well-being. Beyond that, the night sky was and remains necessary for the normal functioning of the environment, biodiversity, and habitats. During the last half a century, thanks to rapid technological development and the spread of artificial light at night, we made our dark skies disappear. Almost nowhere in Europe, it is possible to see the Milky Way, even with astronomical equipment. Have you ever thought about light pollution? What are the consequences of the disappearance of the dark skies? What are the impacts of light pollution? What are the possible solutions? Can we save our comfort and ensure the visibility of the beauty of the nights?

After a small talk and Q&A session, joined by astronomers we will go stargazing to the public observatory in the centre of Ghent. Jupiter, Saturnus, and the full moon will be visible!
