Sam Tickell is a PhD student at Ghent University, Belgium. He commenced his PhD research in 2018 to look at sports media, in particular the World Rally Championship, and online streaming of sports and its impact on fan engagement and relevant return on investment.

Prior to joining UGent, Sam worked in the university system in Australia holding positions in executive communications, public relations and social media. He has also been a motorsports media professional for more than a decade covering events from club events to the WRC and Formula 1. He holds a Master of Arts Degree specialising in social media communications from Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom. There, he researched social media communications on reputation in the university sector.
