This research line focuses on the evolution of, and trends in, humanitarian aid and its various actors in contexts that are, or have been, confronted with one or more types of humanitarian emergency. Relevant topics therein are the socio-economic impact of the aid sector's presence in a given context, the interaction between relief and development, security management, civil protection structures, the emergence of non-traditional donors, and informal coping strategies in emergencies.
