The Ghent Institute for International and European Studies is launched!

The 15th of September 2021 marked the official kick-off of the new Ghent Institute for International Studies, with the very first council meeting of the new research group.

The Center for EU-studies (CEUS), originally established in 2005, and the Ghent Institute for International Studies (GIIS) established in 2008, decided to band together on their shared research interests in late 2020.

GIES is building a research profile that encompasses six interrelated research themes: (1) political economy, (2) climate-energy-environment, (3) development, (4) geopolitics and strategy, (5) (inter)regionalism and (6) governance, with the EU taking up a transversal place within all of these themes.

The research group also remains the driving force behind two master programmes at the department of political science: the Master of Political Science: International Politics, as well as the Master EU-Studies.

With the launch, our social media pages also got revamped, so follow us on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with all the goings-on of the research group!

As a new research group, GIES is looking forward to working together with the other research groups in the department.
